Sunset 18h58An outdoor experience the whole family can enjoy together, and couples can use the opportunity to do a fun, yet romantic activity together on a late Sunday afternoon.
Views of the winter winelands is something you do not want to miss, while keeping warm being active outdoors and having some wine with your picnic!
With limited numbers allowed on after-hour permits, booking online is essential as government regulations will be followed for Covid-19.The warm hospitality of the historic Muratie wine estate welcomes you when family & friends will gather on the mountain to enjoy a picnic together, while the sun sets with views of Table Mountain in the distance. The moon will rise above Simonsberg and the adventure continues when hikers walk back through the forest with headlamps.This circular hiking trail with over 200 hand-built steps; has been constructed by Dirtopia a few months ago and runs from the Trail Centre at Muratie wine farm to a look-out point at the foot of Simonsberg with spectacular views of the Winelands.
There are signs along the circular route that is approximately 3.5km total, and it can take you 30 min; up to 45 minutes to reach the picnic spot, so do not arrive later than 17h30 to ensure that you have the full experience. Only 20-30 minutes to walk back to the Trail Centre at Muratie.
Bring a blanket to sit on while you wait for the sunset / moon rise under the watchful eye of the Simonsberg mountain. The look-out point is called Gilloolys where you can enjoy your own packed picnic and wine from Muratie per glass or per bottle. Snacks & drinks for sale at the Trail Centre where you collect you permit on arrival. Coffee station will be open here until 8pm!Time: Arrival from 17h00, no later than 18h00 to start hike (you hike on your own time!)

Online bookings essential: can be back at the Trail centre between 19h30/20h00, depending on your walking speed and the time you start going down. Bring something warm to wear after dark and a torch, but there are also some small torches available at the Trail Centre. Wear good walking/hiking shoes – you are climbing a mountain with over 200 wooden steps & various terrain.
